[PC] The Legend of Kyrandia - Book One (CD-ROM version) (1992)

How:
Read about it since Amiga times, got on GOG.

Pros:
- No explicit actions: just one click for everything, which works surprisingly well
- Great pixel art graphics and smooth animations
- Good voice-overs overall
- Fast movement, can skip dialogues
- Autosave

Cons:
- Can get into an unwinnable state without knowing
- The game structure and puzzles feel like a King's Quest 1 remake
- Basic inventory puzzles and lots of trial and error
- Too many useless mazes and random items
- Limited inventory slots

You transmute into a pegasus!

Mixing potions time! This is completely random and I created all possible potions.

[PC] Amerzone (1999)

How:
Heard of it after playing Syberia, got on GOG during an Anuman Games sale.
Pros:
- Relaxing gameplay
- Nice environments and adventurous atmosphere
Cons:
- Motion sickness caused by the camera movement
- Very easy puzzles and little exploration

Somebody thought this is nice face modelling.

[PC] Anna's Quest (2015)

How:
Got it from a GOG winter sale.
Pros:
- Very nice graphics and smooth in-game animations
- Some nice cutscenes
- Quite lengthy with nice variations and quite adventurous feeling
- Overall good puzzles
Cons:
- Annoyingly naive main character
- Very bad and unfair ending towards Winfriede
- Several open threads are never explained (e.g. who's the fox?)

The chapter with Winfriede as a playing character is actually better than the rest of the game. Also, this explores the connection between magic and science!

How:

Pros:
- Creepy atmosphere

- Super powers
- Some mini-games including a turn-based battle
Cons:
- Annoying music
- Some glitches
- Limited interaction with the environment
- Too much talking

[PC] King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow (1992)

How:
Often heard of it as one of the best adventure games ever, got on Gog.com with the King's Quest 4+5+6 pack.
Points:
I managed to finish the game with 228/231 points without using a walkthrough (I actually needed a walkthrough just to open the ink bottle...). The only puzzle I missed was feigning death in front of the black cloaked man, since I got the correct lamp by trial & error. Still got the best ending possible.
Pros:
- Some memorable and diversified music
- Generally good voiceovers
- You get to ride a black winged horse to the realm of the dead!
- Direct references to previous episodes of the series
- Rather lengthy, with a great amount of optional content
- The second half of the game is amazing (realm of the dead + castle)
- Very nice and logical puzzles
- Great graphics and cool cutscenes
- The possibility to die or get dead ends makes gameplay more exciting
Cons:
- Some super-fast animation glitches
- Some audio glitches (sometimes the music volume covers the narrator's voice)
- Using an item or using an item on the main character give different results only with some items (e.g. the ink bottle must be used directly on Alexander to open it)
- The Isle of Wonder seems more like the deus-ex-machina of missing inventory items
- Once again a final love ballad
- Some tedious backtracking required
- Trial & error required to solve certain puzzles
- Dead ends (usually quite clear though)

[PC] RAM Ghost (2012)

How:
Got with the AGS Bake Sale.
Quiz:
Where is the ghost in the picture above?
Pros:
- Rather addictive
- Couldn't find any use for the treasure chest in the attic
- Decorating the house with wallpapers and new furniture is naively fun
- Nice pixel graphics
Cons:
- Becomes repetitive pretty soon
- Starts difficult, ends easy
- The spook minigame is not a game at all
- Some items (e.g. the cow) feel a bit out of place
- No music

[PC] Dark Parables: The Exiled Prince (2011)

How:
Tried the demo and liked it, bought it right away on BigFishGames.com, together with other two episodes.
Pros:
- Neat graphics
- Good pace and well integrated cutscenes
Cons:
- Heavy on the HOG side
- Overabundance of inventory items and collectables (jars, tiaras, potions, etc)
- A lot of backtracking
- Boring and repetitive music

[PC] Dark Parables: Curse of Briar Rose (2010)

How:
Tried the demo of the second episode on BigFishGames website, liked it and bought the whole series.
Pros:
- Beautiful graphics, fitting music
- Some amount of non-linearity
Cons:
- Adventuring elements are limited to very repetitive inventory puzzles, the rest is pure HOG
- Shallow storytelling
- Lots of backtracking
- The diary gives away some puzzles
- The puzzles per se are trivial, one specific puzzle appears at least three times (place colored balls on colored tile)
- Only a few events, no character interaction (starts with the princess appearing, to never see her again)

[DS] Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates (2007)

How:
Found at a reasonable price while browsing games at Gamestop. Never heard the game before, but decided to go for it since it has Final Fantasy in the title.
Pros:
- Nice setting with good scene variety
- Likable characters
- A simple, yet well paced story
- Excellent graphics and fitting music
- Playing characters can wear/carry many different clothes/weapons with the graphics changing
Cons:
- The accessory/weapon/armor creation system is somewhat overwhelming
- Starts too easy, very linear
- Not enough motivation to switch characters and use special moves or buy special stats-enhancing items
- Diagonal movement is very uncomfortable with the console d-pad
- Easy to get lost, the ingame map has marginal utility and the game perspective does not allow to see the current level clearly
- The game can be saved only in special areas (at crystals), which are not even frequent. This sacrifices mobile gaming and quick games a lot.
- Items easily fall on the characters head and are annoying to retrieve
- Having obligatory multiple characters makes gameplay confusing and cluttered

[PC] King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella (SCI version) (1988)

How:
Bought the 4+5+6 bundle on GoG during sales after finishing King's Quest II.
Pros:
- Very nice graphics and fluid animations
- Nice, short music punctuates the main events
- Very logical puzzles, some of which are rather challenging
- Some lightweight creepy moments and night scenes
- The game changes to zoomed-in visuals in interiors
- Very likable main character
- You get to play as a frog!
Cons:
- It's sometimes hard to see where is the main character due to screen clutter (e.g. when appearing behind a tree), and it's easy to get stuck
- No sound effects
- Some extremely annoying arcade sequences (e.g. the usual narrow paths and climbing the whale's tongue)
- Some dead ends
- Unpredictable random events make puzzles more difficult than they should be (e.g. cupid taking a bath in the pool, the cave monster appearing at times)
- The parser is sometimes very strict (e.g. play sheet music), sometimes very forgiving
- Unnecessary items have just the standard description

[PC] Oz Orwell and the Crawling Chaos (2012)

How:
Read the review on AdventureClassicGaming, got convinced by the graphics. Was already keeping an eye on Midian Design anyway.
Pros:
- Nice graphics and mood
- Plays well in general and it is far from boring
Cons:
- Very short, a lot of wasted potential
- Clunky animations
- No voiceovers
- Most inventory items are never used
- General lack of care for descriptions and dialogues
- Out of place humour
- Incredibly clichéd
- Very few puzzles

[PC] The 7th Guest (1993)

How:
Always heard about it from my junior years, always wondered what kind of game that was. Finally came out on gog.com, bought it right away.
Pros:
- Very nice retro creepy graphics mixing simply textured 3D with FMV
- The main character (Ego) speaks!
- Nice music fitting the creepy atmosphere in a mocking way
- Thankfully it's short
- There is one interesting puzzle
Cons:
- The game mostly consist in moving randomly around the house looking for puzzles
- Movements and gameplay are so f*cking SLOW that solving and looking for puzzles is a pain more than anything else
- Puzzle difficulty is utterly unbalanced, with few original puzzles
- The game flow is continuously and annoyingly interrupted by a mocking Stauf or Ego himself
- Music and voice-over are unbalanced
- The storytelling is broken and confused
- Acting is sub-par

[DS] Another Code: Two Memories (2005)

How:
Saw (didn't read) a positive review on Adventuregamers.com during a DS adventures lookout. Convinced by the fact it is developed by Cing, the same guys behind Hotel Dusk.
Pros:
- Gameplay is light and fun
- Very good presentation overall
- The game just feels good to play and always keeps you interested
Cons:
- Puzzles are too easy
- The plot can be confusing if enough attention is not paid
- Ending is quite anti-climatic and cliche somehow

[PC] The Book of Unwritten Tales (2009)

Pros:
- Humorous, fun and packed with references and self-irony
- Beautiful graphics and animations
- Great music
- Intelligent, never obvious
- Cool story and setting
- Nice puzzles with average difficulty and some genius script
- Rather lengthy
Cons:
- Graphic and sound glitches keep the game from being perfect
- Actual dialogues differ quite a lot from dialogue choices and sometimes from spoken audio
- Abrupt ending with no final confrontation
- Inventory looks cool but feels a bit uncomfortable at times

[PC] Don't take it personally, babe, it just ain't your story (2011)

How:
Having enjoyed Digital: A Love Story quite a bit, I've been watching Christine Love's personal webpage waiting for some new game to come out, and it eventually did.

Pros:
- Long-lived, enticing, well-written
- Beautiful characters and backgrounds
- Nice, fitting music
- Love the messaging system
- Characters change their clothes!
- Ingame choices are important to how things evolve (my impression at least), and are not randomly posed
Cons:
- Music doesn't loop properly
- Event drawings (like the kiss scene) clash with the beautiful art
- Christine Love doesn't answer my messages

[NES] Uninvited (1989)

Pros:
- Nice music, consistent graphics
- Nice, creepy setting
- Atmosphere builds well
- Puzzles are not too difficult but there are many red herrings (many inventory items you never use, including one magic spell)
- A pleasant game overall
Cons:
- Maybe too easy, at least easier than Shadowgate, and shorter
- Moving the cursor with the directional pad is very impractical
- A couple of puzzles are a little bit illogical (a spider for the spirit?), even though they're not essential to complete the game
- There is a constant fear of being stuck at an unwinnable state (even though actually there is none that I'm aware of)

[PC] [text] - A Summer Story (2009)

Pros:
- Nice backgrounds
- Very fluent
- Makes you want to explore the alternative endings
Cons:
- No background music
- Finding all the endings is very hard (with no reason)
- The idea of a mystery boy on the other side of the phone is very nice, but thrown away. Why not make a longer, better game with it?
- Very short

[Browser] Earl Grey and This Rupert Guy (2010)

Pro:
- Grafica carina e calzante

[Amiga][PC] Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge (1992)

Pro:
- Storia bellissima, dialoghi, musica e grafica altrettanto
- Si incontrano i personaggi del primo gioco
- Ottimi enigmi
